John (Steven)'s Story
I attended R.D. White Elementary, Glendale from 4th - 6th grade, Woodrow Wilson Junior High 7th - 9th grade and Glendale High through 10th grade. Moved from Glendale, California about summer of 1964, and attended Mission Bay High, in Pacific Beach, California. I went into the Air Force 5 months after graduation in November 1967. I was stationed at Vandenberg AFB, Strategic Air Command (Nuclear ICBM's/Security Force) in Central California 68/69 and the United States Air Force Academy, Law Enforcement 69/71. I met my wife Barbara at the North Gate of Air Force Academy one evening in February 1970 and we married at the Air Force Academy, Colorado August of 1970. We have been married 53 wonderful years. Barbara and I have 2 grown children, Kevin and Amanda and they have given us 6 grandchildren, Austin, Jordan, Davin, Cayden, Natalia and Zackary and we have 3 great grandchildren. We lived in Colorado for 18 years and I attended the University of Denver. We have lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for 36 years now. Currently, I am employed part-time for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas, Nevada. I work in the Armory taking helping to maintain vehicle maintenance rotation, lethal and non-lethal equipment and supplies. As a Metro Volunteer I coordinate enforcment of Handicapped Parking. I volunteer with Armor and do Fit Testing on officers (Gas Masks) to ensure they fit properly with no leaks. I'm also a member of the Paradise Town Board for 21 years and the township here in Las Vegas that we live in.
Workplace - Retired
After getting out of the Air Force in November of 1971, I went to work for Citibank, now CitiGroup in foreclosures and retail credit management as the Retail Credit Administrator, Consumer Banking. Started with the City of Las Vegas in 1991 and established the first in-house enforcement unit to enforce court ordered compliance on criminal and traffic cases. This was also the first court enforcement unit ever established in any court in Nevada. I had been a Judicial Enforcement Officer/Supervisor in the court for 28 years retiring in April of 2019.
